MAY PROGRAM CHANGES

While we remain optimistic that the situation will improve so we can carry out the remainder of our season, we have made the difficult decision to cancel May programming at Pilchuck. Earlier this morning, we sent emails to students, instructors, summer staff, resident artists, and partners involved in May programming (including Pre-Session, Session 1, youth outreach programs, exhibitions, and artist residencies), notifying them of this decision.

We remain optimistic that the remainder of our 2020 programs will still take place and continue to encourage interested students to enroll in 2020 Summer and Fall Programs. We have amended our enrollment and refund policies (below) to give you the flexibility and financial security to do so without any risk.

UPDATED POLICIES TO OUR PROSPECTIVE 2020 PARTICIPANTS

We have extended deadlines and relaxed our cancellation policies to allow for flexibility in your planning. These changes are being communicated to our students, AAs, and TAs:

  1. If Pilchuck cancels any program (a singular course or session), we will notify participants 30 days in advance and they will receive a full refund, including deposit.
  2. Pilchuck has extended the decision deadline by an additional 2 weeks for students, offering a full 3 weeks from the date of their notification.
  3. We will change the student cancellation period from 30 days to 14 days for any COVID-19 related issues (illness, travel restrictions, etc.)
  4. We will include the $500 student tuition deposit in our refunds for any COVID-19 related cancellations (illness, travel restrictions, etc.)

PROACTIVE SAFETY MEASURES

Our entire team is taking additional safety precautions while implementing and continuously identifying best practices as we prepare to welcome participants to campus. Among these measures are procuring additional alcohol hand-sanitization stations throughout campus and disinfecting common surfaces multiple times each day.

TRAVEL INSURANCE REIMBURSEMENTS

For instructors, artists in residence, teaching assistants, and artist assistants, – We will reimburse 100% of the cost of travel insurance on airline tickets, provided you have purchased the option offered by your airline carrier and provide receipts.

For peace of mind, we do recommend students consider purchasing travel insurance.

TRAVEL BANS

As of this writing, the current travel ban from Europe to the United States is expected to expire on April 13th. Additionally, the USA and Canada have mutually agreed to close the border to non-essential travel. We will continue to monitor travel bans in advance of planned program start in June.
