The mission of Pilchuck’s Outreach program is to promote knowledge about and increase access to glass as a creative and collaborative art practice. Through partnership programs and events held on and off campus our goal is to engage and collaborate with regional and global organizations to creating glass-focused opportunities for individuals and communities who otherwise would not have access to glass.
The Indigenous Family Retreat is a program that was created in 2018 to provide opportunities for Indigenous students form the region and beyond to learn about glass and experience the Pilchuck campus. Over three days and two nights, Indigenous participants come together to engage in workshops on glassblowing, bead making, wood carving, and weaving.
Open to ages 15 and up, this program has grown from individual students attending to families joining together, enriching the experience through shared learning and cultural connection. The retreat continues to foster creativity, community, and the passing down of traditions across generations.
Pilchuck is a proud partner with Hilltop Artists, a program that empowers young people from different economic and cultural backgrounds by providing tuition-free art education, mentorship, and collaboration in the medium of glass.
Pilchuck hosts a group of Hilltop students for a retreat. This provides students with an opportunity to learn new skills and techniques through a series of workshops led by professional artists and Hilltop alumni.

Pilchuck’s Off the Hill program brings glass art education into communities across the region. We partner with schools, after-school programs, youth organizations like the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA, and arts groups such as the Washington Arts Educators Alliance.
We believe the arts are a vital part of education and are committed to sharing the possibilities of glass with learners of all ages. Programs range from slide presentations on the history of glass and careers in glass art to hands-on workshops. These may include simple fusing projects for young students or mobile hot shop demonstrations and advanced classes.
Workshops can be tailored to fit, from single sessions to multi-day experiences. Outreach events are offered during our annual season, from late fall through early spring.
Pilchuck Glass School's new HEaT program offers invited veterans from our local communities a chance to explore the healing and creative potential of working with glass. This year’s program features a one-day sandcasting workshop, where participants carve designs into sand molds and pour molten glass to create one-of-a-kind sculptural pieces.
This is a private event for invited guests. If you're interested in learning more about the program, please feel free to reach out to us.
