Artists Presentation: María Naidich and Sarah Vaughn
Join Pilchuck Glass School at our Seattle Office & Studio for a special presentation from this year's Emerging Artist in Residence , María Naidich and 2025 EAiR Coordinator, Sarah Vaughn. Pilchuck's Emerging Artist in Residence program supports artists who are making a transition in their professional lives. Whether moving from academia to a professional studio practice, taking up a new medium, or beginning a new body of work. This presentation will give you a window into the fascinating world of glass, and the artists that make Pilchuck Glass School the place where the glass world comes together.
About María Naidich
María Naidich is a practice-based researcher working mainly with sculpture and installation. Her installations are built around fiction, speculative narratives, archaeology-inspired methods, and references to non-Western cosmologies in relation to nature. Her installations involve texts, glass sculptures, ceramics, assemblages of found objects and materials, light, and sound. Her practice addresses topics related to stones, water, the concept of nature, and the dichotomies derived from an anthropocentric understanding of nature, such as the alive/inert and natural/artificial distinctions. She is a PhD candidate at UNAM in Mexico, where she is currently developing research on geological and artistic glass and the mutability of this material within the discussion of the natural and the artificial.
About Sarah Vaughn
Sarah Vaughn discovered glass while at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where she was honored as the sole winner of the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award. Upon graduating in 2007, she discovered Pilchuck Glass School in 2007 as a student and has returned numerous times over the years in various capacities. She received her MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2014 and has been awarded grants from RIT, the GAS, SouthArts, and the NC Arts Council. She participated in residencies at the University of Oregon, WORKS Museum, Glass Wheel Studio, UrbanGlass, and Penland School of Craft. Vaughn currently lives in Western North Carolina. She enjoys her life in the mountains where she spends time with her dog, pursues new work, and fixes broken rocks.

Program
Every summer since 1971 the glass world has come together for innovative and rigorous workshops with an international cohort of instructors and artists. In 2025 we will host seven sessions.
The summer is filled with an all-star roster including Jen Elek, Annette Blair, Ben Edols, Jessica Loughlin, Sibelly, Danny Coyle, Dante Marioni and more. An advanced topics Spring Session will include an opportunity to be a part of Pilchuck history by rebuilding one of the program furnaces with Fred Metz. Session 3 will see the return of lampworking maestro Lucio Bubacco for a 30-year reunion of his Flame to Furnace collaboration with Brian Kerkvliet and Ed Schmid. Preston Singletary and Martin Janecký will bring their combined approach to Session 4. Silvia Levenson returns during Session 5, Pilchuck’s first bi-lingual (Spanish/English) session.
