What began as a rather naive interest in melting casting color has evolved into 6 years of exploration and evolved my work and process. Now faculty at Alfred in the Sculpture Dimensional Studies division, what were once small batches have transitioned into larger melts for glass students and billet production for personal projects. The rabbit hole has accumulated into nearly a hundred melts, some of which have produced color for my cast sculptural work. Topics will include my approach to color recipe research, mixing batch, CNC and ram press molding for making crucibles, kiln and furnace melting, and results.
