Vitrigraph Mastery
Explore the vitrigraph kiln in this comprehensive, hands-on workshop designed for glass artists of all backgrounds. No matter the temperature of your glass, this class will expand your creative toolkit with fresh cane and murrine techniques. Students will master kiln fundamentals through Nathan's signature cane and murrine methods, developed and refined since 2009. Each student will design and pull three vitrigraph pots while exploring a variety of murrine styles and discovering how these versatile elements can enhance their existing glass practice. Beyond creating amazing cane and murrine from Bullseye glass, students will learn a handful of innovative techniques for maximizing these precious handmade elements in future projects.
Portland-based artist and educator Nathan Sandberg has established himself as one of the leading kiln-glass instructors working today. Through OnGrade Studio, which he founded in 2012, Nathan teaches innovative glass curriculum to students worldwide. Nathan is widely credited as a pioneer of modern vitrigraph methods, which he began developing in 2009 and which have since become an integral part of his glass practice. After spending eight years in the Research & Education department at Bullseye Glass Company, he founded OnGrade Studio in 2012. His teaching takes him to studios, schools and art centers internationally, complemented by a robust in-house and online education program. OnGrade Studio serves as Nathan's personal studio and curriculum development hub while also providing studio access to local glass artists.
