Location: Pilchuck Glass School (Stanwood, WA) and Fremont (Seattle, WA)
Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time (up to 40 hours/week)
‍

Position Summary:
The Auction Assistant plays a key role in the preparation and execution of Pilchuck’s annual auction and gala. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Team, this position is responsible for preparing pedestals, gallery walls, and other display elements; assisting in the setup and breakdown of the auction; and supporting the Art Handler and Maintenance teams as needed. This role does not require prior experience working with glass but does require a strong work ethic, the ability to collaborate effectively, and a willingness to take on repetitive or physically demanding tasks. Housing and meals are provided while working on-site in the position at Pilchuck. Once the kitchen staff departs the Pilchuck campus, assistants are expected to be self-sufficient and help maintain a clean, shared kitchen space. Key Responsibilities:

  • Patch, paint, and wrap pedestals for auction display
  • Collaborate with the Art Handler on checklists and display needs
  • Maintain an organized inventory of pedestal materials
  • Keep workspaces clean and orderly on a daily basis
  • Support the Maintenance and Art Handler teams with additional tasks as needed
  • Assist in the complete setup and teardown of the auction event
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in glass art and enthusiasm for contributing to Pilchuck’s principal fundraising event
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with patching, painting, or similar hands-on work is a plus

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a loud, and active environment
  • Adherence to safety regulations and PPE protocols
  • Strong ability to follow directions and work independently when needed
  • Availability to stay in Seattle for two nights during the auction weekend
  • Willingness to work Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, with variable hours during auction weekend
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required for operating Pilchuck vehicles)
  • Ability to prepare your own meals after kitchen staff depart and help maintain a shared kitchen space

Compensation & Benefits:

  • ‍‍Up to 40 hours/week at $18.00 per hour
  • On-site housing provided at Pilchuck Glass School during period of employment
  • Hotel accommodation and meals provided during the Fremont auction weekend
  • Studio access as availability permits

Employment Dates:

  • ‍‍Start Date: Sept. 15, 2026
  • End Date: Oct. 22, 2026
