BotLab Coordinator

Welcome to the BotLab, a dynamic studio dedicated to 3D modeling, scanning, printing, and advanced fabrication techniques like Glowforge laser cutting, Wazer waterjet cutting, and CNC milling of graphite and wood. As the BotLab Coordinator, you will manage appointments, ensuring efficient use of multiple projects and equipment. Studio hours typically run from 9 AM to 6 PM, with breaks for meals, artist talks, and events. During dedicated class sessions, you’ll receive added support from Instructors and TAs to assist students during extended shop hours.

Recommended Experience:

• Extensive skills in 3D modeling with software like Rhino, Blender, or similar CAD on both PC and Mac
• Experience with 3D scanners and reviewing/loading files for successful 3D printing in PLA
• Proficient in maintaining 3D printers (PrintrBots, Prusa, and FlashForge preferred)
• Familiarity with CNC machines, particularly routing with the X-Carve CNC
• Experience monitoring a studio with multiple users needing assistance from start to finish

General Outline of Tasks:

• Provide safety orientations on proper equipment and material usage to all program participants
• Manage the technical operations of the BotLab, including 3D printers, Cricuts, 3D scanners, Glowforge, X-Carve router, and Wazer waterjet cutter
• Keep BotLab consumables well-stocked
• Oversee the safe use of BotLab resources by scheduling participant usage appropriately
• Offer assistance and advice on project plans and equipment usage
• Review all files before running 3D prints, CNC routing, or cutting tasks
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all equipment as needed
• Organize daily clean-ups and end-of-session tidying
• Attend scheduled weekly staff meetings and program meetings
• Complete all assigned projects by the end of each session

Compensation:

• A minimum commitment of one session is required for the BotLab Coordinator position
• Work up to 40 hours per week at a rate of $22 per hour
• Room and board provided while on campus
