Kitchen Assistant

The Kitchen Assistant position at Pilchuck Glass School does not require any glass art experience. As part of a dedicated team consisting of five full-time assistants, a Kitchen Coordinator, and three Assistant Chefs, you will work alongside the Head Chef to prepare and serve delicious meals. Kitchen Assistants rotate shifts throughout the week, with morning shifts starting at 6 AM and evening shifts ending at 8 PM. A passion for teamwork and a commitment to serving meals on time while maintaining a clean kitchen and lodge are essential. This role is open to individuals of all experience levels in glass, whether you are an artist interested in learning about glass or someone who enjoys food and community.

Recommended Experience:

• Interest in glass or experience in an art school setting
• A passion for food and cooking
• Excellent team player with the ability to take instruction well
• Some experience in a kitchen environment is helpful but not required

General Outline of Tasks:

• Report to work in appropriate attire: pants and closed-toe shoes (preferably non-stick)
• Obtain a WA Food Handlers card for Skagit County prior to arrival on campus (reimbursement provided by Pilchuck upon arrival)
• Assist with food preparation, set up the serving line, and stock and store deliveries
• Monitor the food line during service to answer questions and replenish food as needed
• Support Chefs with food prep as requested
• Wash dishes and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen
• Prepare coffee and keep the coffee station organized and clean
• Ensure the lodge is stocked with essentials: mugs, napkins, spoons, tea, sugar, bread, cereal, etc.
• Post the menu on whiteboards and tag meal items with dietary information per the Chef’s instructions
• Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and lodge
• Keep storage rooms neat and organized
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• The Kitchen Assistant position requires a minimum three-session commitment, with a longer commitment preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for the majority of the shift
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs

Compensation:

• Kitchen Assistants may work up to but not more than 40 hours per week at $18 per hour
• Room and board provided while on campus
