Kitchen Assistant

No glass art experience is required to be a Kitchen Assistant. A crew of five full- time assistants, a kitchen coordinator, and three assistant chefs work with the Head Chef to prepare and serve tasty food. Assistants rotate to help the kitchen all week—the morning time starts at 6 AM and evening crew ends at 8 PM. Assistants must enjoy working as a team to serve on time each meal and to keep the lodge and kitchen clean. This role is for all experience levels in glass, for artists interested in learning glass, or art-interested individuals that enjoy food and feeding people.

Recommended Experience:

• Interest in glass or art school experience.
• A passion for food and cooking.
• Excellent team player who takes instruction well.
• Some experience in a kitchen environment is helpful but not required.

General Outline Of Tasks:

• Kitchen staff must report to work in pants and closed toe shoes preferably non stick.
• Obtains a WA Food Handlers Card for Skagit County prior to arrival on campus (reimbursed by Pilchuck upon arrival on campus).
• Assists with food preparation, set-up of the serving line, stocking and storing of deliveries, and Lodge care.
• Monitors the food line during service to answer questions and replenish food.
• Helps chefs with prep as requested.
• Washes dishes and keeps kitchen clean.
• Makes coffee and organizes and cleans the coffee station.
• Keeps lodge stocked: mugs, napkins, spoons, tea, sugar, bread, cereal, etc.
• Posts the menu on the whiteboards; tags meal items with dietary info per Chef’s instructions.
• Maintains cleanliness of kitchen and lodge.
• Keep storage rooms neat and organized.
• Attends weekly staff meetings.
• The Kitchen Assistant position requires a minimum three session commitment, but longer is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 40lbs.
• Must be able to stand for majority of shift.

Compensation:

• Kitchen Assistants may work up to but not more than 40 hours a week $18 per hour.
• Designated studio time on days off and outside of work hours and program needs.
• Room and board while on campus.
