Lead Auction Art Handler

Reports to: Director of Development
Job Location: Pilchuck Glass School - Stanwood Campus
Effective Date: July 6 – October 30, 2026* (end date may be extended based on auction needs)
Position Information: Temporary, Seasonal

Works 25 to 40 hours per week, subject to change based on receipt of artwork, cataloging timeline and other needs. Additional hours may be required the week of the auction (October 12-18, 2026). The Auction Art Handler works on the Pilchuck Glass School campus with occasional trips to Seattle.

Campus housing may be provided. Meals will be provided during campus summer sessions until mid-late September.

Compensation: $25/per hour

Job Summary: The Auction Art Handler is responsible for cataloging, packing, and exhibiting all artwork before and during the annual auction, as well as collaborating with other Pilchuck staff to ensure all artwork is delivered or shipped post-event in a timely manner.

During the week of the auction, the Auction Art Handler will collaborate with the campus team to load the trucks and install the artwork at the auction venue, advising on safe handling of the artwork. The Auction Art Handler works in the packing room on auction night to help supervise staff and volunteers with the packing and de-installation of artwork.

The Auction Art Handler will work closely with the Assistant Auction Art Handler to ensure the responsibilities and duties below are complete and executed professionally.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Consolidates all incoming artwork for the auction, including cataloging of all work
  • Logs installation requirements and display needs for each piece
  • Sets up artwork for photography and assists auction photographer as needed
  • Orders packing supplies and works with UPS to ensure that packing standards meet all shipping guidelines.
  • Re-packs and ensures proper labeling of all auction artworks
  • Works with Pilchuck staff to ensure the safe transport and installation of all artworks on-site at Fremont Studios in Seattle for the event
  • Collaborates with Director of Development and Development & Events Specialist to determine set up and tear down logistics for the auction, including planning the layout of the art displays, managing art installation requirements, managing staff and volunteers who will be helping with set up and tear down, and ensuring that all art is properly packed and categorized for pick-up night of or shipping later
  • Works with the Assistant Facilities Manager to facilitate auction volunteers on the de-installation and re-packing of artworks the night of the auction.
  • Assists the Development & Events Specialist with post-auction art shipping as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 2 years of experience handling glass art objects in a professional setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Meticulous organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to be flexible, prioritize tasks, and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and moving artwork.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly with fellow staff, campus students, and visitors
  • Ability to walk, ascend, and descend stairs and ramps on campus
  • Must be available to work the weekend of October 17-18, 2026.
  • Must have current driver’s license, access to a vehicle preferred (mileage compensation provided).
