Maintain Grounds & Driver Assistant

No glass art experience is required to be a Maintain Grounds & Driver Assistant who assists the Maintenance Grounds Technician in grounds, garden, and machinery operations, as well as driving for pick-ups/drop offs. The maintenance crew starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 5 PM, may work weekends. This role is for all experience levels in glass, for artists that are interested in learning glass, or outdoorsy art-interested individuals who would like to develop more in-depth maintenance skills and can be a warm welcoming personality to people arriving to campus. The Maintain Grounds & Driver Assistant should enjoy teamwork, be excited to welcome people to campus and enjoy a wide variety of hands-on labor.

Recommended Experience:

• Must have a valid driver’s license and 2+ years of driving experience.
• Interest in glass or being an integral part of an art school community.
• Enjoy being outdoors doing hands-on work from building maintenance to landscaping.
• A valid, unrestricted driver’s license, a good driving history and 2+ years of driving experience.
• Experience using basic tools such as drills, power saws, and hand tools.
• Must be a hard worker and good team player.

General Outline Of Tasks:

• Work closely with Maintenance Grounds Technician to assists in specialized maintenance projects on campus including garden prep and development (weeding, irrigation, fence building, etc), building upgrades, machinery operation (tractor, telehandler, chainsaws, etc – training provided), and vehicle maintenance.
• Coordinate the arrival and departure of program participants for pick up at the shuttle station.
• Prepares campus for special events such as student-to-student auction, picnics, spring tours, as well as classes with special grounds needs.
• Responsible for safe operation of tools and machinery as well as general campus and vehicle safety.
• Attends weekly staff meetings and coordinates with maintenance crew on special projects.
• The Maintain Grounds & Driver Assistant position requires a four-session commitment.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work outside in inclement weather and among grass, trees and pollen.
• Should be comfortable working around loud machinery.
• Able to lift 50 lbs and traverse the rugged campus.

Compensation:

• May work up to but not more than 40 hours a week at $18 per hour.
• Designated studio time on days off and outside of work hours and program needs.
