Michiko Sakano is a Brooklyn-based artist and designer whose work bridges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. Raised in Kanazawa, Japan — a city renowned for its rich craft heritage — she was deeply influenced by her family's multi-generational involvement in kimono-making. This early exposure instilled in her a profound appreciation for meticulous detail and the beauty of handcrafted artistry. Beyond her studio practice, Michiko is a highly respected fabricator and educator. She has taught at institutions including the Cleveland Institute of Art, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, Penland School of Craft and Pilchuck Glass School. Her fabrication clients include Lindsey Adelman Studio, Jorge Pardo, Isadore, Roll & Hill, David Weeks Studio. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Architectural Digest, ELLE Decor and other leading design publications.
