Pilchuck Fellowship Program

Applications for the 2025 Pilchuck Fellowship have closed

Pilchuck’s Fellowship is a dynamic professional development and educational program created to support emerging artists who want to take the next step toward a career in glass. This comprehensive program aims to eliminate financial barriers while offering fellows the chance to refine their creative practice and build valuable professional skills in an inspiring and supportive environment.

About the Pilchuck Fellowship Program

The Pilchuck Fellowship spans two consecutive summer sessions. During one of the sessions, Fellows participate as students in a workshop of their choosing (subject to availability). During the other session, they work on seasonal staff, gaining practical studio experience. Throughout both sessions, Fellows take part in professional development training, focusing on honing skills essential for independent artists.

Pilchuck Glass School is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. This fellowship is designed to remove financial barriers for groups that have been historically underrepresented at the school.

If you are looking for an opportunity to help launch your artistic career, look no further.

Student Fellow

A key feature of the program is it allows fellows to fully engage in student learning and on the job training without having to balance the demands of both simultaneously. During their student session fellows can fully immerse themselves in class to maximize their learning potential. They will have some professional development training during their student session, but this will be scheduled to have little to no impact on class time.

Working Fellow

As seasonal staff, fellows play a crucial role in studio operations, working closely with Studio Coordinators, instructors, and TAs. The Program Assistant coordinates fellows’ schedules and tasks throughout the duration of the fellowship, ensuring a balanced experience. No prior experience is required, but practical skills and a strong desire to learn are essential. Fellows working as seasonal staff are compensated with an hourly rate at Washington State’s minimum wage.

Studio Assistant Goals:

  • Monitor studio activity to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with Studio Coordinators and the Studios Manager on studio maintenance.
  • Support classes during demos and studio access.
  • Assist artists in residence with studio needs.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Pilchuck Glass School is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and participants. Every qualified applicant will be considered for employment. Pilchuck encourages all interested persons to apply regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability, marital status, sex, veteran status, political ideology, or other protected class.

Professional Development

During both sessions, Fellows participate in professional development activities designed to hone essential skills needed for a career in the arts and provide them with networking opportunities.

Professional development activities may include:

  • Seattle Studio Tour
  • Portfolio reviews
  • Documenting work
  • Meetings with the Artists in Residence
  • Résumé and CV development
  • Application strategies
  • Giving a strong slide presentation
  • Writing an artist statement and bio
