Course Description

In this workshop students will design and create a two dimensional works that combine fused glass powder drawing with traditional stained glass methods. Drawing inspiration from natural forms, students will be guided in the use of a variety of techniques to depict plants, insects, small animals and trinkets onto sheet glass. Students will learn how to draw with glass powder, paint with enamel, draft a stained glass pattern, cut and then fully assembled by foiling, soldering and finishing.

Suzanne Head

Guest Artist Bio

Suzanne Head is a Brooklyn-based fused glass artist with a background in classical figure drawing. She has notably adapted a technique for drawing realistic imagery with powdered glass. Head was an Emerging Artist in Residence at Pilchuck Glass School in 2023 and was featured on the cover of Glass Art Magazine in 2020. She has taught workshops at Penland School of Craft, UrbanGlass, and the Corning Museum of Glass.

Neile Cooper

Guest Artist Bio

Stained glass artist Neile Cooper has been exploring the use of glass as means of illustration and illumination of nature since 1999. Cooper is the author of Kicking Glass: A Creative Guide to Stained Glass. Her work can be found in private collections throughout the United States. She is perhaps best known for The Glass Cabin in the Woods, a small structure on the artist’s New Jersey property that is entirely clad with her artwork.
